Tips for Disinfecting Your Home During Quarantine

Our homes are our safe havens until the COVID-19 pandemic is over. As long as we stay in our homes, we have a higher chance of protecting ourselves from infection and reducing the spread of the virus. Even if staying at home becomes boring at times, it’s the only way to keep ourselves safe from potential infection. But to make sure that our homes remain safe, we have to maintain cleanliness and sanitation on a regular basis.
Whether you have plenty of free time or are working from home, keeping your house clean during an outbreak is crucial. Here are some helpful tips to keep your house clean and disinfected during the quarantine.

1. Maintain proper handwashing habit

Ever since the outbreak, you may have heard medical experts constantly explain that frequent handwashing is important. Nonetheless, we can’t miss mentioning it: if you can’t keep your hands clean, you can’t keep your house clean. Wash your hands for at least twenty seconds. (Please don’t keep the tap running for 20 seconds)

Make sure that you wash all of your fingers thoroughly while rubbing the area between your fingers. Wash your hands, especially after using the bathroom, blowing your nose, coughing, sneezing, handling food, and before eating. While sanitizer is the best alternative to soap, try to wash your hands only with soap and water as much as possible.

2. Clean and disinfect frequently used surfaces

The most important thing is to clean and disinfect high traffic surfaces. The areas and objects that you touch often carry the most germs. You need to disinfect everything from tabletops and countertops to doorknobs and light switches.

Cleaning removes dirt and grime but doesn’t necessarily kill germs. Disinfectants kill germs on surfaces. However, disinfectants do not necessarily clean the surfaces. This is why you must clean before disinfecting any objects or surfaces.

If you have young children who play with toys, make sure to disinfect their toys as well. Furry soft toys carry a lot of germs and dirt. Make sure to wash your kid’s favorite teddy once every couple of days.

3. Wash all the towels, linens, wash clothes

You must be using kitchen towels, hand towels, and dust cloths to clean and disinfect your house. The rags you use to clean get dirtier than you think. Cleaning with a dirty rag will do more harm than good. So make sure to wash all your clothes once or twice a week.

4. Clean your mobile phone

Your mobile phone is like a third hand. It contains far more germs than your hands. It has germs from outside, your hands, and whatever surfaces you put your phone on. While you can’t use soap and water on your phone, there are other ways to keep it clean.

Keep a microfiber cloth to wipe your mobile phone daily. Dab some rubbing alcohol on the micro-fiber cloth and gently wipe the screen and edges of your phone. Remember to remove the phone cover when cleaning it. Be careful not to let moisture go into any port or holes on the phone.

Wrapping Up

Make sure you stock up on good cleaners, disinfectants, washcloths, and scrubbers. Encourage your family to practice good hygiene. If you have enough time for daily cleaning, then split up your cleaning tasks for all the days of the week. Stay safe!
