Carpet Cleaning Tips

After having your carpets professionally cleaned, there are some tips to follow that will help extend the wear and beauty between carpet cleanings:

Make regular vacuuming a “must” between cleanings to pick up loose dirt and debris. By doing so on a routine basis, the loose particles will get picked up – instead of being driven deep into the carpet fibers. This gives a dull appearance over time and also requires removal eventually. Always empty the dirt reservoir after each vacuum.

If you have areas that are walked upon frequently, invest in an area rug or rug runner to protect the wear and tear on your carpet. Area rugs are a great way to extend the life of any carpet, and they can decoratively liven up a room (while protecting the precious carpet below them).

If you are cleaning due to a spot or spill, do not pour water or liquid onto the stain, as it may spread the spill further into the carpet fibers. Blot the spill repeatedly until it is no longer possible to blot it any longer. Doing this will “lift” as much of the stain as possible, and will help to dry it as well. Speak with a professional carpet cleaner about using a protectant on carpets- a professional can suggest the best one that suits your carpet materials and can best explain how to use it properly.

Rearrange furniture every 6 to 12 months. This prevents one area from being over-used and provides a balance between worn areas and those areas that were untouched while furniture was on top.

Taking off your shoes upon entering can dramatically reduce the dirt and allergens that might otherwise be carried into your home and onto your carpet. It also reduces the heavier friction and thus extends the beauty of the carpet between professional cleanings.
